When is best time to come?

Our season starts May 1 st and runs through mid September. Your best time to come depends on what you want to do.

When is best weather?

May & June are driest; June has the longest hours of daylight. July & August have more rain but are warmer.

Best fishing?

It depends on what you want to catch. May & June are best for kings, July – September is best for coho. August & September are best for stream fishing. July is best for catching both kings & coho. The bottom fish, shrimp & crab are caught throughout our season.

How do we process the fish?

Mike cleans & filets all fish each day, then it is vacuum packed and frozen on board. Every one pitches in to help with the processing.

Should we bring fishing gear?

You are welcome to bring any gear that you wish but we do provide all the gear for fishing off the Huntress. We use Loomis Rods & Penn International Reels. If you are into fly fishing the rivers & streams, you should bring your own gear, we do provide spinning rods & have a large inventory of flies that you are welcome to use.

Can we take our fish home with us?

Alaska Airlines allows two 50lb. limit check ins & two carry ons. We supply the airline approved 50# fish boxes. Your fish box can be checked in like a piece of luggage for no extra cost. You can also Air Freight or Federal Express your fish at your expense.

How many do you accommodate?

We limit our groups to 6 maximum/4 minimum. So if you have 4 – 6 people in your group, the boat is yours. If you have less than our 4 person minimum, we can combine you with another such group.

What to wear?

Is a common concern…dress is casual in Alaska. The average temps from May – September are in the high 50’s & 60’s. You should expect some overcast & rainy weather as well as sunny where the temps are higher, the 70’s & even into the 80’s. Layered clothing works best, tennis shoes or soft soled shoes are best on board. We have rain coats & pants on board but if you have these you might want to bring yours for a sure fit. We also have an assortment of rubber boots that you are welcome to use if going to shore for stream fishing; beach combing or hiking a trail interests you. An old pair of tennis shoes that you don’t care about getting muddy will work too.

For fishing, it is a good idea to bring a pair of pants to use for “fishing” & then change later into something comfortable for the evening. Another idea is to wear “rain pants” or “wind pants” over your jeans or sweats while fishing. This works real well as you can easily wash off any fish blood that you might get on you. It also keeps you dry if raining & warmer too. Neoprene fishing gloves are nice if you tend to have cold hands. We have a “huntress hat” for everyone but you might want to bring a comfortable hat of your own.

What are other items we should bring?

Bedding & towels are provided so you just need to bring your clothes and personal hygiene items. Sunglasses & a good pair of binoculars for wildlife viewing. If you are into playing any games, some folks enjoy bringing them along. On board there are cards, cribbage board & dominoes. You are welcome to bring CD’s; we also have satellite radio, TV with video cassette player, lap top with DVD. However, these usually don’t get used much as the scenery & other activities use up most of your time.

Will I be able to plug in batteries etc.?

Yes, we start the generator at 6am & usually turn it off around 10pm. During that time you can plug in anything electrical that you need.

Will I be able to use my cell phone?

After we leave the harbor, we will be in & out of cell service.

We hope this helps, if we have forgotten anything please be sure to call or email. We want everyone to feel at home and be comfortable.
